5 Lessons You Can Learn from An Organization in Higher Education

Entrepreneurship and innovation are not new concepts, especially here in California. California is well known for leading the way in technology, emissions, and agriculture, and can now add entrepreneurial education to that list. California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is amongst a small number of universities worldwide, to launch a School of Entrepreneurship, according to an article by IECN. The School of Entrepreneurship is a major move towards innovation for California State University, San Bernardino. The launch of the School of Entrepreneurship signifies the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation. It also demonstrates that education in entrepreneurship is becoming increasingly more mainstream. CSUSB saw a leadership opportunity to innovate, collaborate, serve the community, grow its brand, and practice the application of an entrepreneurial mindset. Let’s look a little further at these 5 lessons.

#1-Innovate

While CSUSB had an entrepreneurship program in place, it recognized a better solution to the problem it was serving and decided to establish an entire School of Entrepreneurship. This creative change positively affects the students, the faculty, the organization, and the community. As an entrepreneur’s innovation is important to us because it’s vital to the business ecosystem and how we continue to meet market needs.

#2-Collaborate

The School of Entrepreneurship opened opportunities for CSUSB to collaborate across its campus’ with other academic programs and with stakeholders, according to the article. The benefits of collaboration for entrepreneurs are endless but the goal is utilizing a joint effort to achieve a common goal. CSUSB shows us that collaborations can occur inside of our existing network as well as outside of our network.

#3-Serve Your Community

CSUSB School of Entrepreneurship is serving its community with innovation and expansion of its program. Also, it’s serving as a resource to local employers, providing leading business education to its potential workforce at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Looking for occasions to serve your community can be rewarding as an entrepreneur and can also promote the local economy.

#4-Grow Your Brand

CSUSB recognized the benefits that the School of Entrepreneurship would have on its brand, being the first of its kind in California, the article mentioned. This move allowed the University to position its program above others within the California State University (CSU) system. Being strategic about growing your brand and creating brand awareness should be an on-going goal for entrepreneurs and small business owners.

#5-Have an Entrepreneurial Mindset

The School of Entrepreneurship is innovative in the academic space, being only 1 of 15 universities worldwide and the first in California, according to the IECN article. CSUSB attributed its entrepreneurial way of thinking, to the students it plans to attract. Having an entrepreneurial mindset can create solutions for problems, help you stay positive when you’re told no, help you to be flexible in your problem-solving, and give you the courage to take risks.

As a leading entrepreneur educational organization, the Sacramento Entrepreneurship Academy (SEA) continues to demonstrate a commitment to the growth and development of aspiring entrepreneurs in our local community.
